The Lama family
This is the official website for the Parpati Kunda Home Stay. We are located in the village of Gatlang, Rasuwa, Nepal(elevation 2,238 m), at the edge of Langtang National Park. Gatlang is one of the stops along the route of the Tamang Heritage Trail. At our home stay, you will be staying with Tashi Lama and his friendly family: Reyjalmo (wife), Phurpu Mendo (14-years-old), Sita (11-years-old), Dawa Mendo (eight-years-old), Phurpu Dolmo (four-years-old) and Nima (eight-months-old). Don’t worry, there’s plenty of space for everyone. Parpati Kunda Home Stay was established in January 2013. After the Tamang Heritage Trail was developed in 2005, the group Tourism for Rural Poverty Alleviation Program (TRPAP) gave residents in Gatlang advice on how to start guest houses and home stays. We started our home stay because we want to give tourists and trekkers the chance to experience true Tamang culture from a family who has lived in Gatlang for generations. Please note that the community lodge in Gatlang is no longer active, and that most guidebooks and brochures have not been updated to indicate this change. Our home stay is named after the holy Parpati Kunda lake, found an hour’s walk from Gatlang.
How do home stays work?
The money you pay for food and accommodation goes back to our family. Part of that money is used to send our daughters to the government school just up the hill. By staying at Parpati Kunda Home Stay, you’re not only supporting our family, but also the local economy. All the food we serve is grown in and around Gatlang, so you’re getting a real local experience, and helping village farmers. You can expect to feel like part of the family when you stay at Parpati Kunda Home Stay. You can play with the girls in our front yard (they love balloons!), or relax by the fire hearth after a day of trekking. You can also join Reyjalmo in doing the chores of the day, or walk around the village and admire the views of Langtang-Lirung looming overhead. Please note that we are currently in the midst of renovating our home stay to make the roof higher, as well as add more bedrooms on the main floor. We will post updated photos of the home stay once the work is done. Thank you!
